What’s on at the Co-op……

Winter is a delightful time to sit by a cosy fire and crack some nuts with friends and family,
the Tamar Valley new season whole walnuts are available at the Co-op…..We also stock Byron Bay macadamias, pistachios, almonds, brazil nuts, peanuts, walnut pieces, cashews, and pine nuts.

Below is there recipe of the month:

Pear and Walnut Bread

Ingredients

60g butter

1 cup raw sugar

2 eggs

2 cups plain flour

1 teaspoon baking powder (or 1/3 teaspoon of bicarb and 2/3 teaspoon of cream of tartar)

½ teaspoon bicarbonate of soda

Fresh nutmeg

½ cup buttermilk (or 1/2 cup of milk with 1/2 tablespoon of white vinegar or lemon juice)

1 cup coarsely chopped pears

1 teaspoon brandy

½ cup coarsely chopped walnuts

Directions

Cream butter and sugar.

Add eggs, one at a time, beating well in between.

Combine dry ingredients separately, then fold into mixture, alternating with the milk.

Stir in the walnuts, brandy and pears, taking care to not over mix.

Pour into loaf tin and bake for 1 hour at 175 degrees Centigrade.

(This recipe works well doubled and it freezes beautifully)

What fresh produce is available at the C-op this week: garlic, orange carrots, cauliflower, Dutch cream potatoes, butternut pumpkin, beetroot and leaves, broccoli, salad mix, and swede.

What’s in the vegie box/bag this week……carrots, cauliflower, garlic, parsnips, tendril mix, dutch cream potatoes, butternut pumpkin. The boxes have extra: beetroot, croccoli, salad mix, swede and mushrooms. The bags have extra : salad mix, and baby silverbeet.

Thanks to our wonderful volunteers who help man the Co-op and weigh and pack the vegies for the boxes and bags.
